FAA Wants Your Opinions on Portable Electronic Devices

Poor Alec Baldwin, he was just a poor victim of an outdated FAA rule that makes passengers turn off portable electronic devices during takeoffs and landings. Apparently the FAA is ready to listen to you, me, Alec Baldwin (martyr) and electronic device manufacturers on the matters of this rule.

The FAA is asking a slew of questions including procedures, types of devices, how devices interact with each other and with the electronics of a flying craft, voice calls (or not) and whether passengers are paying attention to safety warnings.

Who knows if the FAA will even act on these comments, but it is still promising to see.

If you’d like to send in your thoughts to the FAA regarding portable electronic device usage you can appropriately (and not during takeoff or landing) do so below:

  • Email to PEDcomment@faa.gov
  • Federal eRulemaking: http://www.regulations.gov
  • Snail mail:
    Docket Operations, M-30
    U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE, Room W12-140
    West Building Ground Floor
    Washington, DC 20590-0001.
